An all-terrain longboard made to surf the city.
Stair-Rover was founded by Royal College of Art Design Products graduates Po-Chih Lai, Quake Hsu and Ard Heynike. Po-Chih Lai's longboard evolved from a simple truck and wheel invention, to an all-terrain longboard for the ground and stairs, known as the Stair-Rover.
The Stair-Rover has not only earned the attention of skateboard/longboard enthusiasts, but covered by notable press like CNet, Fast Company, Huffington Post, Dezeen and Trend Hunter, and internationally renowned TV shows like the Discovery Daily Planet, Manoto 1 and The Gadget Show.
While in its final stage of prototype, the Stair-Rover has been tweaked with performance and durability upgrades for testing among the wider 'boarding' community. With the design of the Stair-Rover refined and after a period of intense user testing, the team took their product to Asian crowdfunding site, ZecZec, where they raised over $1 million.
The Stair-Rover team’s vision is to continue to develop its all-terrain technology, applying it to a number of different products and contexts such as scooters. Quake Hsu says, ‘The long-term goal is to partner with big brands. These are the firms that have the capacity to take new products to market. That’s why it’s so important for us to prove Stair Rover’s potential.’
