A new Design & Impact S/EIS Fund to back RCA start-ups, spinouts and alumni

Working with Infinity Asset Management LLP, which is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority, InnovationRCA and IRCA Enterprise announce the launch of a new tax efficient investment fund that will invest in early-stage companies founded by students and staff of the Royal College of Art.

The £2–£5 million fund will give qualifying* investors first access to a unique pipeline of creative RCA talent covering a range of sectors and addressing scalable markets. The fund intends to be invested in 18–24 months into 15–22 companies. It intends to build on InnovationRCA’s 12-year+ experience in uncovering design talent at an early stage before anyone else and investing in and developing it.

InnovationRCA’s multi-sector portfolio of over 70 companies, has created hundreds of UK jobs while achieving a total gross multiple of 4.7 x invested capital. Portfolio companies have gone on to secure investment from Amadeus Capital, Balderton Capital, Index Ventures, Local Globe, Parkwalk and other leading VCs. The range of investee companies range from new material innovation & patent-based businesses to digital companies. It includes cleantech, agritech, medtech, fintech and creative brands. The RCA pipeline is diverse with 36% of InnovationRCA companies having women founders.

This new Design & Impact S/EIS fund will continue to unearth and develop exciting RCA companies before anyone else and it is likely that 40% of companies will be for-profit impact companies as has been the case with InnovationRCA companies to date.

The fund will employ InnovationRCA’s rigorous selective criteria in identifying companies for investment. Investee companies will be incubated at InnovationRCA receiving the business training, support and monitoring to advance.
