Research interests
Davide’s research engages with the political, economic and technical processes that constitute architecture as a material form and as a form of knowledge. In his PhD research he has investigated the notion of archetype as a theory and a method for the design of architecture, focusing in particular on the context of Brazil.
His curatorial practice experiments with the possibilities of architectural representation instruments to constitute and share knowledge, challenging the idea of authorship and the hierarchies that define the role of the architect in relationship to the builder and the inhabitant.
These research trajectories have informed his pedagogical approach, which deploys forms of representation – such as the perspective section and the diorama – as critical tools to investigate the relationship between form, construction and use, bridging the aesthetic, technical and political dimension of architecture.
Practice
Davide has been teaching architecture and urban design in the UK for over 10 years, both at undergraduate and postgraduate level, including the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL (2012-14), University of Liverpool (2014-16) and the Syracuse University London Program (2014-22) where he has been the director of the program for 5 years.
Since 2015, he is co-founder of CAMPO, a space for architecture that has has produced exhibitions, talks, international workshops and books, collaborating with renowned institutions such as the RIBA, Le FRAC Centre-Val De Loire and Cooper Union.
He has curated the exhibition “Dreams Seen Up Close for the Second Biennale of Orleans in 2019 and participated to the Seoul Biennale of Architecture and Urbanism with the research project “Rome East”. He curated the traveling exhibition “Savage Architecture” displayed at the Architectural Association of London, Kent State University, Florence, Politecnico di Milano, CIVA Stichting in Bruxelles and Temple University in Rome.
Before moving to London in 2012 Davide ran his own architecture and urban design practices T SPOON (2006–11) and UGO (2014–17), and worked for internationally renowned offices, such as IaN+ and MVRDV on a variety of architecture, landscape and urban design projects.
