Overview

Since March 2017, the RCA has delivered Design Thinking Masterclasses for the EBU Academy, which is the training centre for the European Broadcasting Union, the world’s leading alliance of public service media.

Course structure

Professor Jeremy Myerson, Helen Hamlyn Chair of Design at the RCA, introduced the methodology and tools of design thinking through short talks and case studies showing the best examples of disruption in the media sector. Participants were shown that through design thinking they can define, visualise, prototype and test new ideas. For the second part of the course participants worked in teams to develop and present their own proposals.

The course is collaborative and content is tailored to meet the specific needs of industry. In addition to the course, in October 2017 Jeremy delivered a keynote about the power of design thinking at the 18th EBU Academy Assembly on Innovation to Drive Digital Transformation of Public-sector Media.

Outcomes

The RCA has provided training for participants from national broadcasters including RTBF and VRT (Belgium), Czech Radio (Czechoslovakia), DR (Denmark), Deutsche Welle and ZDF (Germany), Sveriges Radio (Sweden), PBS (Malta), RAI (Italy), SRF (Swizterland) and DUNA (Hungary).

Custom Executive Education Masterclasses and Workshops

Through our portfolio of innovation masterclasses and workshops, the RCA provides senior-level professionals and business leaders with critical business skills. We deliver courses for businesses, organisations and universities on design thinking, service design, creative leadership, disruptive innovation, entrepreneurship, human-centred design, artificial Intelligence and healthcare design.

We can tailor the curriculum for a day, a week, or several weeks over the course of a year with interrelated projects. Courses can be delivered online, on-campus, hybrid or at partner organisations.
