Pearl Academy, India’s leading creative education institute worked with the RCA to exclusively offer one of the world’s first Designing Services and Products with Artificial Intelligence courses to students in India.

This forward-looking workshop was delivered over 9-week as an online/offline programme, developed and taught by the RCA academics with delivery support from Pearl Academy.

Offered to the third-year undergraduate students of Pearl Academy, this workshop focused on improving participants business and creative managerial skills through AI-powered services/products, bringing a competitive edge to their business or brand.

They learnt how to focus their imagination to create innovative products and services that are not yet in the market and develop projects through collaborative teams and first-hand design thinking experience.

The ‘Designing Services and Products with Artificial Intelligence’ programme included:

  • a strategic and applied understanding of the design principles supporting human-to-human-to-AI interactions,
  • to develop AI ecosystems supported by products and services.
  • The programme blends theoretical and practical units that teach how to deploy AI for fostering personal creativity and pursuing career ambitions but also for developing a responsible, inclusive, accessible and sustainable strategy to innovation through design.
  • The students will benefitted from developing skills by experimenting with AI creatively to support the development of an individual project or to collaborate in an industry-sponsored project.

Participants came away from this course with:

  • An understanding of design-led strategies and methods for the development of products and services using AI.
  • An understanding of the key factors that need to be accounted for in the development of human-to-human to AI interactions.
  • Basic AI development skills for use in the creative industry.
  • The ability to mine data and tell stories about using your interpretations of it.
  • An understanding of the issues that contribute to the success and failure of technology.
  • The appreciation of a human-led approach to technology acknowledging diversity.
