The Possibilities of Painting: celebrating RCA alumnus Frank Bowling

Join RCA Vice-Chancellor Paul Thompson, MA Painting graduate Emily Moore and Ben Bowling, son of the artist Sir Frank Bowling as they celebrate and discuss his work at Hauser & Wirth's exhibition in London.

Born in British Guiana in 1934, Sir Frank arrived in London in 1953. He graduated from the RCA, alongside David Hockney and Derek Boshier, with the silver medal for painting in 1962. By the early 1960s he was recognised as an original force in London’s art scene with a style combining figurative, symbolic and abstract elements. In 2020 Sir Frank was awarded a knighthood for his services to art. With thanks to Hauser & Wirth.

“Frank really opened up my world to what painting can be.”
