About

RCA students partner with Rainbird and EY to develop AI banking apps that help vulnerable customers

Studio Projects connect organisations with Royal College of Art students and academics to explore new ideas and innovation opportunities. Through research-led knowledge exchange collaborations, participants use design and creativity to challenge conventional assumptions and identify potential business opportunities.

Projects bring together students, academics and partner organisations in workshop-based collaborations that explore long-term horizons and develop speculative design concepts.

Studio Projects bring together multidisciplinary teams of RCA students from a wide range of degree programmes. Working alongside academics and partner organisations, students explore complex challenges and develop creative responses using design-led research methods.

Projects focus on experimentation, idea generation and speculative thinking, helping organisations explore future opportunities and alternative approaches to innovation.

How it works

Studio Projects are typically delivered over the course of an academic term. Projects involve collaboration between partner organisations, RCA academics and students, often through workshop-based sessions that explore research insights and design concepts.

Students work across disciplines to investigate challenges and develop creative responses that help organisations explore long-term innovation opportunities.

Recent Studio Projects have included:

  • A collaboration with CERN exploring how science, technology and design can address global sustainability challenges.
  • A project with Microsoft examining the future of work in response to AI disruption.
  • Architecture design projects developed in partnership with British Land.
