The Royal College of Art (RCA) has been named the world’s leading art and design university for the fifth consecutive year.
The RCA leads the table of 200 of the world’s top universities for the study of art and design in the 2019 QS World University Subject Rankings, ahead of much larger institutions around the globe.
The ranking consolidates its position as the world’s internationally renowned art and design university, offering unrivalled opportunities in art and design.
Dr Paul Thompson, Vice-Chancellor of the Royal College of Art, said: ‘I’m proud and honoured that the Royal College of Art has been recognised as the world’s number one university for art and design for the fifth year in succession.
‘As a small, specialist research-intensive postgraduate university in the heart of London, this is testament to the quality and commitment of our staff and the enormous talent of our students who are ranked as the best in the world.'
‘We have evolved over our 182-history, and today, our remarkable institution brings world-class art, design research and researchers, unrivalled design expertise and research intensity together.’
The QS University Rankings assesses the best international universities based on three assessment areas: academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. The rankings are based on the opinions of academics and employers.
Ben Sowter, Director of Research at QS, said: ‘When surveyed, the global academic community’s feeling remains clear: no Art & Design institution has fostered higher academic standards than the RCA. This is evidenced by its perfect score for our Academic Reputation indicator, which accounts for the expert insight of over 1,700 faculty specialising in the field.’
