The Royal College of Art has been named the world’s leading university of Art and Design in the 2016 QS World University Subject Rankings. The RCA takes the top spot over top-ranking universities including MIT, Stanford, Yale and Rhode Island School of Design.

This is the second endorsement of the RCA in as many weeks: the Chancellor George Osborne pledged £54 million in last week's budget to help build a new Royal College of Art (RCA) campus in north Battersea including a flagship centre for postgraduate students, researchers and entrepreneurs.
These announcements follow a successful period of development for the College, with the opening of the state-of-the-art Woo Building in Battersea. The RCA has been consolidating its position at the top of design and art education with the recruitment of world-leading, research-active faculty and academic partnerships with elite international higher education institutions.
Dr Paul Thompson, Rector of the Royal College of Art, said:
“We are delighted to be again recognised as the world’s top university for Art and Design. The RCA is highly selective, taking only the most talented artists and designers. Those students go on to transform the world – in design, fine art, fashion and engineering. The QS subject rankings represent a resounding endorsement of British higher education, with Cambridge, Oxford and UCL joining the RCA at the top tier of world-ranked universities."
The QS University Rankings assesses the best international universities based on three assessment areas: academic reputation, employer reputation and research impact. The rankings are based on the opinions of academics and employers.
In 2014 the RCA was recognised as the highest ranked specialist art and design university in the UK, in the UK-wide REF (Research Excellence Framework).
