Selected by leading animators and film experts, the collection features work by RCA Animation alumni including Academy Award winner Suzie Templeton (Dog), Gaelle Denis (FishNeverSleep), Ian Gouldstone (Guy 101), Max Hattler (Collision) and Johnny Kelly (Procrastination) amongst others.

The study of animation at the RCA began in 1958 as part of the Film and Television Department, drawing together students who were curious about filmmaking. This group included luminaries such as Ridley Scott, the Brothers Quay, Phil Mulloy and Vera Neubauer.

In 1985, animation became a separate area of study at the College, with the first MA Animation students graduating in 1987. Fast-forward to 2010, with the RCA Animation Department being widely recognised as delivering one of the finest programmes in the world.

This spectacular collection brings together 50 innovative films from the first 25 years of the study and practice of Animation at the College. These films map the growth of the course during a period of expansion, diversity and growing confidence for animation, and evidence the changes in technology and contemporary art practice.

The Animation programme provides an immersive environment that draws out the personal response to the world, strengthening and refining a personal voice. This development of ideas and imagination, and the playful use of animation tools yields surprising, delightful and powerful work, as evidenced by the breathtaking films in this amazing DVD.
