Jamie Jenkinson

Jamie (he/him) is an artist, researcher, and programmer based in sunny Morecambe. He is interested in: low-cost and accessible creative practices, user cultures, quantum philosophies, improvisation and decentralisation.
Working on MA Visual Communication since 2014, Jamie has established and developed several modules considering digital culture, quantum interpretation, and ecological action.
Jamie’s practice based doctoral thesis, 'De/mystifying smartphone video through Vilém Flusser’s Quanta' was completed at LICA, Lancaster University, and was supported by the NWCDTP.
Jamie co-programmes the online platform xviix, and Morecambe project space, Jewellers.
Jamie has held residency positions with V&A, London; Sidney Nolan Trust, Rodd; Grizedale Arts, Coniston; and Deep Time, Copeland.

Research Interests
Jamie’s research interests and approaches include: 'Low-cost' creative practices, as financially/ethically/politically/culturally/ ecologically low-cost. Digital technology and the significances and shifts from audience to user-based cultures (u/s/e/r/s). Quantum interpretations of re/thinking research methodologies beyond causal limitations. Improvisation, experience, and dialogue as critical practices. Decentralised, neoliberal-critical practices.
Practice
Jamie uses his smartphone as a digital sketchbook, functioning as a starting point for wider considerations around the energy of place and community.
