Visit Sculpture MA graduate Imon Phukan, Artist-in-Residence at the India Art Fair, 8-9 February 2025 in Delhi.

As a student on the Sculpture MA, Imon Phukan explored the ignored spaces like loneliness, agony, exiled and the difficulties of migration and continuous movement, and its effect in a being physically and mentally. As the 2025 Artist-in-Residence programme, Imon continues to push the boundaries of her practice, drawing from diverse influences—folk stories shared by her grandmother, textiles from her northeastern roots, and the poetry of Stevie Smith and Alexander Pope. These inspirations infuse her works with emotional and historical depth. For instance, her performance piece Prana, which involved painting her body, explored the continuum between history and the present.

For the upcoming edition of the India Art Fair in February 2025, she is working on a brand-new hand-stitched textile installation to be presented in partnership with the Royal College of Art. The RCA is proud to partner with the India Art Fair to support Imon’s residency.
