Topographies of Pain is a technology that assists people to articulate their symptoms when they are in pain. This technology can visualise pain-related affordance when verbal scales can be rather inaccurate to define.

The challenge
Around 28 million adults in the UK are suffering from different types of chronic pain, while the communication of pain is unexpectedly difficult, due to the very personal and subjective nature of pain. Insufficient pain assessment could, and often, has a negative implication on the provision of quality health care.
Our approach
Topographies of Pain is developing new tools for tactile communication of pain. We are currently working on the development of a bespoke multi-touch interface, relevant data analysis and innovative communication methods.
